How often do Australians feel thankful?

As the year ends, new data reveals that most Australians experience gratitude regularly

As we close out another year, it’s a good time to reflect on gratitude—a simple yet powerful practice that can transform our outlook and strengthen our connections. How often do Australians experience a strong sense of gratitude or thankfulness?

In the 2025 Australian Community Survey, we asked Australians how often they felt a strong sense of gratitude or thankfulness.

This recent data reveals some interesting insights:

  • A third of Australians (34%) feel deeply grateful at least once a week, making regular gratitude a common experience for one in three people.
  • Another quarter (25%) experience gratitude once or twice a month, while 25% feel it several times a year.
  • On the other end of the spectrum, 12% seldom feel thankful, and 4% report never experiencing a strong sense of gratitude.

Six in 10 Australians feel gratitude at least monthly

In total, nearly 60% of Australians express gratitude at least monthly—a reassuring sign that thankfulness remains a significant part of our lives.

Why does this matter?

Research consistently shows that practicing gratitude can boost mental well-being, improve relationships, and even enhance physical health. As we wrap up the year, consider taking a moment to acknowledge what you’re thankful for—big or small.  Every expression of gratitude counts.
