Are Australian Christians open to sharing their faith? The answer might surprise you. While most churchgoers say they’re ready, far fewer take the next step. Discover what’s helping—and what’s holding us back—from everyday evangelism.
Did you know that nearly three in four church attenders (74%) say they feel mostly or fully at ease talking about their faith? Even more encouraging, 72% are willing to invite friends and family to a church service.
But despite this readiness, fewer people are taking the next step. In the past year, only 38% of attenders helped a non-churchgoer explore questions of faith, and even fewer (31%) actually did so.
So, what makes the difference? The most active sharers of faith were Pentecostal attenders, those who switched denominations recently, young people aged 15–19, and those in ministry roles. They are more likely to talk about their faith, invite others, and help them explore Christianity.
Top barriers include fear of damaging relationships, lack of confidence, or uncertainty about how the invitation will be received.
Many people in our pews are willing and ready—we just need to equip and encourage them to take the next step. Could your next conversation be the beginning of someone else’s journey toward faith?
