Looking at Our Community (2003)

Looking at Our Community: A guide to using the 2001 Community Social Profile

This guidebook accompanies the Community Social Profile that uses material from the 2001 Census of Population and Housing to provide you with a unique picture of your local community. It helps you understand some of the main characteristics of your community and how it is changing. Knowing your community is an essential starting point in planning for mission.

Looking at Our Community helps you navigate your way through the profile. It looks at each part of the profile in turn, highlighting important national trends and suggesting directions for your local church’s mission.

The book also shows you how to use your Church and Community Profile. This second profile compares local community data with equivalent data for your congregation from the 2001 National Church Life Survey. It throws into sharp relief how the make-up of your congregation differs from that of the surrounding community.

The book also contains a step-by-step guide for conducting a workshop using these profiles.

Looking at Our Community is an easy-to-read guidebook that helps you understand and act on the data provided in your profiles and gives you a better understanding of trends in your community.
